Are "floppy tape" devices supported by Solaris x86?

No. You have to use a SCSI tape backup device. Other options include
purchasing a zip drive, which is supported (except on the parallel port),
or backing-up your files to a MS-DOS/MS Windows partition and back it up from
MS DOS/MS Windows or some other operating system.
