What happened to /etc/rc?.d/*?

Just when you get used to the /etc/rc?.d/* style of doing thing,
the startup procedures have all been reshuffled.

Start with reading the smf(5), svccfg(1m), svcadm(1m) and svcs(1m)
manual pages.

The system now automatically notes service failures; knows about
dependencies between services and restarts failed services.
